Thomas Douglas Parrish does a great service to the English language and to any professional user of words in forty-seven humorous chapters dedicated to a number of common pitfalls and howlers careful editors will wish to avoid. A generous peek into his personal library is offered at the end of the book and I confess I was smugly pleased to find that some of the titles he lists can be found on my shelves, too. Sadly, the grouchy but witty Grammarian passed away a year ago but I’m sure he’ll continue to watch over us with unstinting linguistic vigilance.
