Petroica ventrerosa

I recently came across the cutest bird I’ve ever seen: the pink robin.

I wonder why Italian resorted to the harsh-sounding and pompous ‘petroica ventrerosa’ to call this magnificent Australian bird.

Why not pettirosa?
